Tata Power has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to develop 110 kV power infrastructure required for BPCL’s Petro Resid Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit (PRFCCU) project at Mumbai Refinery, aiming to supply 90 MW of power with a combined investment of approximately ₹250 crore.
The PRFCCU project, with a processing capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per annum and an outlay of ₹14,203 crore, is BPCL’s second-largest undertaking and a first-of-its-kind initiative in India’s refining sector to enhance value addition and petrochemical diversification.
Under the MoU, Tata Power will undertake the design, development, and construction of the 110 kV power connectivity and associated infrastructure necessary to support the project’s energy needs.
This infrastructure development is expected to span about 24 months and is subject to applicable approvals and project milestones, representing a joint investment by Tata Power and BPCL of roughly ₹250 crore.
In addition to serving BPCL’s power requirements, the project will strengthen Tata Power’s transmission network in the Trombay area, facilitating the anticipated growth of electricity demand from large industrial consumers and concentrated-load developments in this key industrial zone.
Tata Power also has long-term plans to augment Mumbai’s power transmission by developing a 400 kV transmission facility over the next five years to enhance grid reliability and evacuation capacity for the city’s industrial and commercial sectors.
